David Burgess Support Fund

David has been in the hospital for nearly 5 months months battling Wegener's Granulomatosis, aslo known as GPA, which put him in 3 separate medically induced comas for more than 6 weeks in the ICU.

Because of the way GPA attacks the body, he has had to be intubated 4 times and has received 2 tracheotomies to keep his lungs clear and keep him breathing. He has also had to have lung and kidney biopsies in order to get a better understanding of how severe his condition is. His kidneys are still recovering and will require continued monitoring and dialysis.

Definition:

Granulomatosis with polyangiitis, formerly called Wegener's granulomatosis, is one of a group of blood vessel disorders called vasculitis. It slows blood flow to some of your organs. The affected tissues may develop areas of inflammation called granulomas, which sometimes affect how these organs work.

Early diagnosis and treatment of granulomatosis with polyangiitis may lead to a full recovery. Without treatment, granulomatosis with polyangiitis can be fatal.

David has been mostly bed-ridden for the duration of his time in the hospital and, as a result, has lost a lot of the use of his lower body, though it is returning with daily therapy.

Between the physical therapy to get his body up and moving again, he will have dialysis multiple times per week. Because of this, he won't be able to work a regular 9-5 job for the foreseeable future.

His wife, Rachel, has been able to work very part time while she tries to manage the family home with a severely autistic son and drive the 70+ miles each way between their home and the hospital where David is recovering in Denver, Colorado.

He has recently turned a corner in the right direction and we are hopeful he is on the way to a full recovery. However this road will be a bit slow going so it will be a while until he can get back to work and support his family full-time.

Even though David is a Wordpress front-end website developer and can work from home, it will still be difficult for him to meet with new clients and have a stable income for a while.

With David recovering it would greatly bless him, Rachel (and Gage) to have some of the financial help in what has been the worst time for their family in years they have been together.

Please help this precious family as they work to get David back to 100%.

The response we've received so far has been amazing and SO appreciated, but we've still got a long way to go. anything you can give would be super helpful!
