David Michael Medical Expenses

David Michael was born in late March of 2019. Labor and delivery were very hard on both mom (Melody) and baby (Davie.) However, both were able to return home with a clean bill of health only days after delivery.

Over the next 7 weeks, Davie grew and was loved on by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, members of church family, and Melody’s workplace. Unfortunately, on the evening of May 20, 2019 Davie became very lethargic and was unable to nurse. Melody and her older sister (Angelique) rushed Davie to the E.R. where he was admitted to the NICU. His body temperature had plummeted to 92 degrees and his blood sugar crashed into the 30s. As a result, Davie experienced multiple seizures.

Treatment for his symptoms began immediately as doctors and nurses scrambled to run a plethora of tests. While a diagnosis was still being determined and an MRI was being prepared, it was found out that Davie had bleeding on his brain which also caused at least 1 stroke to the left side of his brain. Once doctors were able to semi-stabilize his temperature and sugar levels, they induced a medical coma on Davie while they inserted a tube to drain the pressure and fluid from his brain.

With the results of his MRI, it was said that Davie had a Strep B infection that resulted in meningitis. Because of Davie's age and the aggressive nature of the infection, Doctors cautioned Melody with a very sobering outcome. Davie went into the "most important night of his life" in a very critical condition that was still not stable.
HOWEVER, Davie did make it through his first night in the NICU--a miracle to say the least. He is NOT in the clear. His blood cells have been fighting the infection so hard that he has had to have multiple transfusions now in an attempt to keep his platelets up. He is still not what doctors would call "stable", and he is estimated to remain in the hospital for a minimum of 3 weeks. The MRI did show brain damage; and albeit the extent is not known, the doctors are being remaining positing that the extent is not so much that Davie at his age cannot come back from it--another MIRACLE!!

This is where we are in Davie's journey. Unfortunately, there are other needs that must be met in addition to the care of his health--Mama needs to be taken care of too. Melody is the financial caregiver for Davie, so the burden of the impending medical bills are already "overwhelming." Additionally, Melody lives almost an hour from the hospital, so the commute to and from the hospital is not an option. We, as her family, are trying to locate an apartment/hotel/friend to provide her lodging so she can be close to the hospital. We are also tag-teaming, alongside wonderful coworkers, in an attempt to provide her with companionship and rest during this time.

I, her younger sister, have set a goal of 25,000 dollars for various and assorted expenses. We know that the medical bills will come when they come, but for now we are focusing on making sure that Melody and her everyday essentials/bills are taken care of while she is taking care of Davie at the hospital; as well as, that she is given provision for a place to stay this next month. What is leftover will IMMEDIATELY go towards medical expenses and care for Davie and Melody when they return home. We want to surpass this goal because we know when all is said and done, Melody will still carry a large burden with her. Please consider joining our family in helping to financially assist Melody and baby Davie.
