Walk for Hungry & Homeless Veterans
I am an Army Veteran, Joined in 1987 until I was put out in 2007 due to self medication and PTSD.
I served in Bosnia, Kuwait, Africa,Iraq, and Afghanistan (OIF,OEF).
Beginning Sunday April 12 , I set out to walk from Rochester NY to Sacramento CA to raise money for Hungry and Homeless Veterans in Rochester NY.
It has been one week since I took that first step , I walked 64 miles, met amazing people and continue to gain followers who motivate and inspire me, donations have been generous and I am filled with gratitude.
My journey is taking a new direction today, I have a metal plate in my ankle from my time in the Army, the miles I have walked have put stress on that injury and I am unable to continue walking.
I have decided to continue by driving across country, stopping at homeless shelters across the country to continue the mission I set out to do ...Raise money and awareness for Hungry & Homeless Veterans.
I am currently on the road and will post updates along the way.
I was once a homeless veteran in 2007 due to self medication and severe PTSD, I received help from the VA's in Rochester & Syracuse NY, The Veterans Outreach center in Rochester and The Rescue Mission in Syracuse for which I am Grateful. I continue to receive counseling and services from the VA in Rochester as well as The Veterans Outreach Center that helps me in a big way.
Homelessness is a struggle many Veterans face
Please help me on my journey to raise money and awareness for
Hungry & Homeless Veterans.
I am donating all proceeds of my walk to
The Rescue Mission (Syracuse NY)
The Open Door Mission (Rochester NY)
Salvation Army (Rochester NY) as well as..
Homeless Shelters within the Rochester NY area that Support Veterans
You can follow Dave's Journey on :
The miles he walked and drove not only raised donations that will go directly to shelters who assist homeless veterans but also raised awareness that we hope will continue to spread and inspire people around the country ...
Thank you for your support and kindness through this journey !!
Dave would like to share a photo and update all of you on his mission ..
Last night Dave stopped for gas in Marcellus Illinois and unexpectedly came across a Military tribute monument
This is dedicated to all servicemen and servicewomen who lost their lives in the Middle East conflicts.
Dave was very moved and honored by this , he spent some time there, took some pictures that were posted last night.
Dave continued on driving towards California, he made it as far as Des Moines Iowa
He was thinking of the monument, the heroes that lost their lives and his time in the Middle East while he was driving .
He decided he wanted to turn around, drive back and spend time at the monument in the daylight.. This is exactly what he did and when he arrived there this morning , he took a video, more pictures and plans to post those upon his return home.
During Dave's visit today, he reflected on his time walking, his mission to raise awareness for hungry and homeless veterans and his personal journey...
He feels that he completed the incredible mission he set out to do, he decided that he is returning home , the visit to this monument completed the mission for him, he is full of emotion love and honor for the heroes that gave their lives keeping America free !
He is very grateful for the support and donations from every one of you
He will post this in his own words when he returns home.
He is inspired and moved by the people he met along his journey as well.
Thank you all for the Incredible support and please stay tuned for the videos and pictures upon Dave's return.
We will also post the handing out of donations in the next few weeks

"the sky is the limit" !!!
I am currently unemployed, so I can not donate, but I would like to say to David a huge, "Thank you" for your service to our country and your fellow veterans, and "Thank you" for keeping us safe and free. As a family member of several veterans (WWII, Korea, Vietnam), what you have sacrificed already and will sacrifice for the rest of your life, does not go unnoticed by myself and my family. You are my hero, sir, and I hope you have an enjoyable and safe walk.
