On Tuesday June 27, 2017, My father Darrell Pottratz suffered a stroke while at a job site in Atlanta, GA. Two blood clots from his heart went to the back part of his brain restricting blood flow.
Within minutes he was rushed to Grady Hospital to have surgery performed to remove them. However, because the blood clots were in the back of his brain there were unable to extract them successfully. As a result they used a blood thinning medicine to try and get rid of them.
We know that the stroke was caused by Atrial Fibrillation. Which is the irregular beating of the heart. When his heart beat reguarly it is believed that sent two clots to his brain.
As it stands now Darrell is awake and alet. Becuase of the stroke however, he is unable to talk or move his right side. He has had two CT scans of his head. He is currently on Oxygen for low oxygen count and is on blood pressure medicine as his blood pressure is high.
Me and my sister are making our way from Colorado to Georgia as I am writing this campaign. The doctors are confident that he will make a full recovery however it will be a very long road.
At this point we are not sure where he stand's finacially as we aren't to the hospital yet. We also are unaware of treatment as we haven't arrived yet.
What I do know we will need:
- Money to pay for dad's medical bills
- Help with his normal bills and obligations
- Money to travel between Colorado and Atlanta until he get's transfered out here as there is no family in Georgia.
We will update more as we go and this list isn't all inclusive. Anything helps. It doesn't matter if it's just a comment on here or money.
We are reaching out to the community as we aren't sure what else to do. We would need the funds over a period of time but sooner rather than later.
In our eyes this is urgent. We have no family on the east coast which means that our father is recovering alone because he can't be moved yet. Until that happens me and my sister have to fly from Denver to Atlanta to see him. We don't want to leave him out there alone.
