Our mother, Darlene Crayne, on a ventilator in the ICU at Chinook Regional Hospital Lethbridge AB. The medical team has decided to pull life support by Wednesday Oct 4, 2017, against the wishes of us, her daughters. Our lawyer was able to extend the court date which we greatly appreciate. There is evidence that Mom is making progress, and we are just asking for more time for her to recover. We are asking for doctors to respect the wishes of the family. In order to prevent the hospital from removing the ventilator, we will need to take the case to court. We’ve found a lawyer who has started the process of making application and gathering affidavits at a cost of $2500 alone. The cost of obtaining an independent opinion from a doctor is around $1000 and may cost more depending on the distance they need to travel, the time they need to evaluate Mom, read her medical history and write up their findings. Beyond that, we will be seeking guardianship in the absence of any medical directives from Mom, and that will take upwards of another $5000 to $7500 over the coming months. We know Mom is in serious condition, but we believe that she needs and deserves more time. Please help us give her that that time!
