A Darkcore Saber Prototype

Donation protected

It's been touted as impossible, but I'm here to bring a "dark core" style saber to the market.

Back in June of 2015, my friend Ryan and I took a roadtrip to Seattle, and during the 24 hour car ride was sabers. That friend had recently gotten into collecting awesome replicas from one of the most revered Sci-Fi franchises of our generation. I was immediately intrigued by the idea of the "impossible" dark core.
Months after the trip, my brain never stopped tinkering with the idea, thinking up possibilites, from using polarized filters to inserting custom made LCD screens inside the polycarbonate blades. Bouncing ideas off Ryan really helped get the creative juices going.

After about nine months, the perfect design dawned on me, and I set about contacting different companies about a prototype run of my design. I now have a quote in hand and want to move forward, but I recently moved halfway across the country and my own wallet is feeling pretty light.

This is where I'm hoping the wonderful saber community will step in. I know many of you dream of having a quality dark core as a part of your collection, and considering the size of the community and what it has backed before, I don't feel that I'm asking for much.

The design will work with most of your sabers. It is a hollow blade that you can either fit with an LED strip or illuminate from the end with one powerful LED.

The Blade will still be made of Polycarbonate, and will be the same thickness as a thick-walled PC blade.

You WILL be able to rotate the blade 360 degrees WITHOUT LOSING THE EFFECT. This is not a simple opaque sleeve inside the tube, nor is it electrical tape.

A bit about me:

My name is Alex, and I'm just a normal guy living in Raleigh, NC. My friends would describe me as a tinkerer. It all started in middle school when I built a blue (420 nm) laser with a little help from my dad. Since then, I've built numerous things, from high powered airguns to 3D printers. I fuel my creative process with copious amounts of Diet Coke, my needle nose pliers are never far away, and the best gift I got this christmas was a 182 piece ratchet set.

A HUGE THANKS TO EVERYONE THAT DONATES. This is a very large, very supportive community, and I'm excited to start this crowdfunded project. In an effort to give back, I'll be keeping track of whoever donates and offer a discount once this reaches production.
