Hey Family,

I am an Acupuncturist living and working in Brooklyn NY. I stand in solidarity with the Tribal Nations protesting the building of the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) through sacred Sioux land; which will threaten the Missouri River water supply from Standing Rock all the way downstream to the Gulf of Mexico. I am headed to  North Dakota with a small team of Acupuncturists (GAHP) to provide Acupuncture and medical care for the the protesters at Standing Rock.

I am staunchly  opposed to the building of the DAPL through the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. The decision to build the Pipeline was made without Tribal input. The river is their only source of water. Already,  a 2 mile long path has already been bulldozed through sacred tribal burial grounds.

Thousands of protesters from Tribal Nations all over North America have decended on Standing Rock in an attempt to halt the building of the pipeline.  There is now a small city of protesters occupying the land. Greg Wilz, division director of homeland security ordered the removal of state-owned water tanks and trailers that had been providing protest camps with drinking water.

This  massive protest has become a movement. There have been gains and losses. It is just the beginning and support is needed! Two decisions have been made by the courts and government.  First, a federal judge has denied the tribe’s attempt to halt construction of the pipeline.  Shortly after this loss,  the US government announced that it will voluntarily stop construction until it can “determine whether it will need to reconsider any of its previous decisions regarding the Lake Oahe site under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) or other federal laws.”

All funds raised will go towards our transportation, camp supplies, medical supplies and food /water costs. Any extra funds raised will be donated to the camps at Standing Rock. They have been there for several months and  are planning on occupying the land throughout the Winter if need be. Please support this effort. Any amount helps. Thank you!

Yours truly,

Rachel Esquilin

Greetings,

Thank you all for your donations! We exceeded our goal and have finished up our Acupuncture/Herbal treatments at standing Rock for the week. We were able to provide care and treatment for people who were sore, injured, sick and/or stressed. People experienced a lot of relief and often came back for repeat sessions. Our team treated anywhere from 20-40 people per day. In addition to providing support to the people at Standing Rock, we also experienced the amazing movement building that is happening there.

It was such a powerful experience bearing witness to the organization, unity and spirit abundant throughout the camps. There were....

Several kitchens feeding hundreds of people. Medic and Herbal tents. Drumming, prayer and dance ceremonies happening all day and night. Speeches, music and celebration. Tribes representing from all over the United States. Indigenous people from outside the U.S. borders with a strong analysis around solidarity in the struggle for indigenous land rights. It was powerful to say the least! And the method of fighting the pipeline was clear. Non-violent protest, steadfastness and prayer/ceremony all day and night.

Many people are committed to staying throughout the winter in order to hold off the building of the pipeline. This is not an easy feat given the freezing temperatures, snow and ongoing legal battles.

In the Legal realm, they need continued support to release people who have have been arrested for protecting the land, as well as pay the legal fees associated with their court case against the DAPL. And in order to stay on that land throughout the Winter, they are going to need to build shelters, more Tee Pee's, warm clothing, food, etc.

They are highly organized with their donations and have two separate funds set up. I would like to ask that you forward all donations to either the Legal Fund or the Camp fund (for staying over the long haul). I will be donating the extra funds that we raised to both of these campaigns. Here are the links:

1.) Contribute to the Sacred Stone Camp Legal Defense Fund:

2.) Contribute to the Sacred Stone Camp gofundme account:

Thank you all again for your support! And I do hope that you continue to support the movement at Standing Rock.

In Gratitude,

Rachel
