Anne Frank Museum

$70,000 goal

Campaign created 9 months ago
We are a student based program called ILEAD.  ILEAD stands for Iowa, learn, excel, achieve, and develop; this is exactly what we are all about. We are very excited to help the Danville library / museum with a new project to expand their story about the Anne Frank pen pal letters.

Our story begins in Danville, Iowa, the home of the Anne Frank pen pal letters. In April of 1940, two Danville sisters, Jaunita and  Betty Wagner, recieved letters and a postcard from Anne Frank and her sister Margot. Thanks to many individuals, Danville was  able to open a small museum in 2007 to tell the story about the Anne Frank pen pal exchange. They soon outgrew the space and in 2014 joined with the city's library to purchase an old building in town and begin renovating it.

Each year our 8th grade class at Danville begins their own pen pal project to try to collect 1.5 million  postcards to represent the 1.5 million children that were killed in the Holocaust. We have an opportunity to help them raise money to purchase a preWWII railcar to display the postcards, but we need your help. We need to raise $70,000 to get the railcar shipped from Macedonia to Iowa and then restore it for display purposes.
