Our Neighbor Who Lives Up The Road In Paradise

Dan Joseph still has his roots in Truckee, CA. He may have moved to Paradise, but his gentle heart and kind soul continues to support the Truckee community. For over 8 years Dan Joseph has served as a member of the board of directors of  the Truckee based art non-profit Trails & Vistas and a volunteer extraordinaire for many annual events. Playing the role of the infamous "Diamond Dan" with his handsome smile and debonair style  he walks the streets of Truckee  inviting  the crowds to step back in time and  enjoy the "Spirit of Truckee" at the annual Historic Haunted Tour.  In the above photo Dan, ever the leader and educator, leads miles of hikers along tracks of natural beauty dotted with musician, artists, poets and unimaginable creations  to support the annual Trails & Vistas Art Hike.   In addition, many in our region recall Dan's  woodworking,  furniture making  and fine custom woodworking  talents as a staple for custom homes and remodels in the Tahoe region since 1973.

A Heavenly Touch In Paradise & Chico

Dan moved to Paradise, CA in 2012 and in his six years there, embraced being an active volunteer in the community. In addition to his work as a carpenter and woodworker, Dan finds numerous ways to give back through volunteering to the Paradise and Chico communities. He is vice president of the Paradise Community Guilds and volunteers at their events. He is a board member of the Chico Housing Action Team (an advocacy group for homeless) and donates his time to help them move their belongings to various shelter locations about town. Dan is president of the public radio station KZFR in Chico.   

The Camp Fire Evacuation

Dan is lucky to be alive after his harrowing and unforgettable  evacuation drive out of his now destroyed Paradise. Dan was living in an apartment when the "Camp" firestorm of November 8, 2018 hit and destroyed the entire town. Dan heeded the evacuation warnings and was only able to grab a few items. His apartment and belongings are gone. He is awaiting word as to whether his woodworking space survived.  He shared with us the last picture in his mind of the flames dancing around the garage where his equipment, recent projects  ready for delivery and a lifetime collection of tools  were stored.

 Immediately after surviving the fire, not one to sit still, Dan thought of others and is already helping survivors  through the Paradise Community Guild events in Chico. Dan is currently in a temporary location in Chico as he awaits the next steps on the road back to Paradise.
