York Needs a JFT Recovery Center to help fight the Opioid Epidemic

Our York community, as everyone knows, has been hit very hard with this Demonic epidemic. I lost my son Dakota back on Oct 15, 2016 to this demon. I have a personal reason to help see a recovery center come to York, so that we can together help turn the tide on this epidemic. Just For Today and Veterans recovery center is exactly what would be a very welcome addition to our York Community. What it would bring to York is a recovery center, that’s open seven days a week from 12:00 noon till 11:00 at night. People can come and go with getting help they need without having to be insured. This is a 501C non-profit organization, staffed by volunteers who are mostly recovering addicts themselves. There aren’t very many of these recovery centers around!  JFT runs a good program that offers meetings every day of the week, as well as a coffee shop and meeting place. It is also a good center for those who have just got out of Rehab. It offers a center for support to help people adjust to learning how to live again! Too many stories of those who get out of Rehab and slip soon after to O.D. We need to share and show the addicts more of the success stories and how they can beat it as well!

I met Steve Barndt on May 1st at a townhall meeting in Harrisburg. I was encouraged by Angie Cook to share my story of losing my son Dakota, and my story. I knew Angie’s husband Bill, and Angie is an addict who has been clean now for 10 years. She’s helping spread the word that you can beat the addiction, she has!! When Steve and I started talking he went to the same Rehab I went to when I was a teenager. Steve went to Gaudenzia Rehab in 2002 and has been clean since then. I went to Gaudenzia in 1978, when I was a senior in high school. I never did Heroin but did almost any type of pills back then. If OxyContin was around back then, I would’ve got hooked! Once Steve was done rehab he started working for Gaudenzia. Steve founded the Lemoyne JFT 3 years ago and is doing a wonderful job in helping others. Steve is now ready to start aYork location, Lord knows we need one badly, to help fight this addiction! All proceeds from this campaign will be used to help startup the York JFT.

Here's JFT's  website http://www.jft-rvss.org/. Read more of what they do in Lemoyne there.

My prayer is by coming together we can unite on a common ground, to help fight this epidemic, till Not One More is lost to this evil addiction. Vickie Glatfelter, whom reached out to my wife Jackie and I after Dakota passed, has done quite a bit by founding Not One More. Not One More is a great educational resource to help others. Just For Today would be an everyday available center to help further the cause of Not One More Lost! This is the facebook page for Just For Today and Veterans Recovery Services.  https://www.facebook.com/JustForTodayRecoveryServices/. If any York business owners or elected officials know of a property that can be used for a JFT recovery center, please contact Steve at JFT in Lemoyne. I know that if we as a community come together, we can make this happen!
