Please allow me to provide you some background on dad; a loving husband father, brother, and grandfather who has worked hard his entire life. He’s always done everything right, from his career, to how he cares for himself with diet and exercise, and to the way he treats his family here and abroad. There’s nothing negative anyone can say about our father and that’s why it pains us so much, that now, he has to fight cancer.

In February of 2016, he began to feel abdominal pain. His concern drove him to take immediate action, he went to the doctors and contacted a recommended Urologist. Months went by with multiple visits, test after test for blood and urine with the conclusion that dad was okay, perhaps a cyst or polyps in his kidney. By March of 2017 (over a year later) the doctor had concluded with false peace of mind that he was okay, but he was not, unbeknownst to our family, he had undiagnosed cancer and he was still in pain.

In April 2017, his instincts told him he needed to start over, he changed doctors and insisted on more tests, invasive, but necessary. By mid-Summer it was determined that he had 2 tumors, one in the urethra and another in his kidney. How long was it there? What is it? What do we do? Dad’s lymph nodes were also enlarged, but his doctor did not realize it. Currently the cancer has spread outside the kidney into the surrounding lymph nodes and chest lymph nodes. We found some solace in having a firm diagnosis, but this doctor did not seem comfortable in treating him. More, vague answers while the desperation grows and dad is in pain.

Moving forward we took action to find a doctor who was experienced to provide the required treatment, and we found a wonderful team at Sloan Kettering in NYC who exemplified this experience and provided us with a plan to fight the cancer. Dad has since began chemo therapy resulting in missed work days, continuous expenses traveling to the NYC offices for consultations, exams and treatments. This team worked vigorously, efficiently and took the immediate correct steps to properly diagnose dad with STAGE 4 Urothelial Carcinoma in the kidney and lymph nodes.  They recommended chemotherapy to begin immediately. He is undergoing 18 weeks of chemo right now, the next phase of surgery will be determined at a later date.

Since this is such a complicated medical diagnosis,  certain specialists and treatments aren't fully covered by insurance; he earns a humble wage and has not asked anybody for help, so we ask it for him.  Please find it in your heart to donate to my father’s life and help us to ensure our best chances at keeping our father here with us, where he is undeniably loved.
