Teacher Training in Rwanda
Donation protected
Hi everyone
My name is Emma and this summer I will be working with LRTT (Limited Resource Teacher Training) a charity that trains teachers in impoverished areas all round this world.
So here's the issue we're faced with, 250 million children worldwide cannot read or write , 58 million are not in school, 100 million will leave after they finish primary school and 190 million are in schools but will leave them unable read or write due to low quality education. A third of teachers are untrained or have received little training. Rapid population growth means the demand for teachers isn’t met by the limited resources to recruit and train them.
I will be travelling to Rwanda, a country that is recovering from the scares of genocide and where 56.9% of its population are living well below the poverty line. I will spend a month in Rwanda's rural communities training teachers in the hope to stop this cycle of poverty.
The entire project is self- funded by the volunteers and my trip in total is costing me £2000- this is for flights, accomodation, food and safe and secure travel to the schools. However £200 of that goes directly into resources needed to train the Rwandan teachers. It pays to set up the conferences that I and the the other voulunteers will be presenting at, travel and food for the Rwandan teachers on those days. This is why I choose to set my target at £200 and no more.
Finally it's difficult for me to find the words to explain how urgent this problem is, the impact this project can have and how much it means to me. Nelson Mandela, however sums it up quite well;
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."
l
Please help to be a part of this change. Anything you can donate is greatly appreciated.
