Community sponsorship was introduced in response to the desire for the whole of civil society to play a greater role in resettling the most vulnerable refugees.
In DAMASQ we are proud to be the first Syrian community group in the UK to support and resettle a Syrian refugee family brought by the home office from the camps in Lebanon or Jordan.
DAMASQ Ltd is a charitable non for profit company, ithttps://www.refugeecouncil.org.uk/communitysponsorship was awarded in 2018 by the lord mayor of Leeds for its charitable work and support for the refugees in Leeds to engage, integrate and establish their lives in Leeds.
One of the home office requirement to apply for a community sponsorship is to raise £ 9000 pounds for each family we need to sponsor and the money will be used:
1- Pay the refugee family out of pocket expenses for the first few weeks after arrival to Leeds until we get their bank accounts open.
2- Employee case workers and interpreters to help them in housing applications, universal credit, schools registration, GPs and dentists registration, English classes and day to day follow up to assure their smooth settlement in Leeds.
Thanking to the refugee council and a generous donor we were able to raise £4500 pounds so far.
