Greg's QVS Year in Portland, OR

In September, I’ll be moving to Portland, OR to begin a year with the Quaker Voluntary Service . QVS is a program that gives young people the opportunity to engage in impactful work in an environment of strong community, support, and reflection. I will be living in a house with five other volunteers; each of us will work at a different local nonprofit, and together we will participate in the local Quaker community.

I was drawn to QVS because of the opportunity it offers to begin a post-college life of bringing about meaningful social change. I graduated from college with a degree in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies, and much of my time both in and out of the classroom was spent engaging with and discussing issues of inequality and social justice. While there are many programs offering service opportunities that align with my interests, QVS is particularly appealing because it offers several levels of community and support, facilitating a year of personal and spiritual growth.

I will be serving with Outside In, an organization which helps homeless youth and other marginalized people move toward improved health and self-sufficiency. Outside In offers a plethora of resources, and my role at the organization will be engaging with clients and helping them access the resources they need.

I am raising $2,000 to help with my living expenses and program costs for the year in the QVS program. This is only a small portion of the total cost of support QVS offers to me, which includes housing, food, medical care, utilities, a bus pass, and mental health support, among other things.

There are three ways to donate:

1) This GoFundMe page.

2) If you would like to reduce the fees taken out of your donation, you can donate directly QVS website at https://www.quakervoluntaryservice.org/donate/. If you choose to do so, be sure to write "Greg Koziol" in the memo line so that your donation goes toward my fundraising goal.

3) If you would like to avoid credit card processing fees altogether so 100% of your donation will go to QVS , you can send a check with "Greg Koziol" in the memo line to:

Quaker Voluntary Service PO Box 8240 Atlanta, GA 31106

Thank you so much for your support!
