A little help from my friends

So you guys all know me fairly well and you know that I used to overshare and used to post WAY too much on social media. I tried after the election to curtail that as much as I could. It hasn’t been easy but I had to stop worrying about other people being duped, etc. so that is why you all don’t see me on Facebook as much. I open Twitter more than I do FB just to see what is trending nationally and globally but otherwise, I don’t post anything like I once did.

You all also know me well enough to know that I have raved several times in the past about my job. It had been night and day differences from the old place. About a year ago we had a management change. Without going into too many details, things changed pretty significantly. Two of the biggest changes were the other salesman here quitting leaving me as the only guy – which to folks in retail, that sounds fantastic – to be the only guy there – but on the commercial side it means I am chained to my desk and my building 9 hours a day, 5 days a week. That isn’t good when you work somewhere where you are expected to go out and find your deals – the phone doesn’t ring and the door doesn’t swing but maybe a few times per month. The other challenge is that the new manager changed the pay plan to straight commission. Again, my friends in retail will say “what’s the problem?” – but those in commercial sales know that if you aren’t able to get out and prospect and find business, being 100% commission means you get 100% of nothing as well.

You all also know me well enough to know I am a fairly prideful person and don’t usually like to ask for help, even when I should. I wouldn’t be doing this if I were not in a desperate situation, but for the first time in my career I have blanked the month. To those not in automotive sales, that means I didn’t sell a damned thing. Not good when you work on 100% commission. I have sat down with my boss and then he sat down with his boss and they are going to make some modifications going into the next month that will prevent a situation like this form occurring again, but suffice it to say, that doesn’t do anything for me or my family NOW.

That said, I need some help. My father-in-law, despite what I think about him, once said to me “you do not have because you do not ask” – so I’m asking for help. I have to come up with July and August rent and the check I have coming won’t cover either one, let alone the other bills – not to mention both of my sons have birthdays in August. I literally am worth more dead right now than alive. With the changes being made, we will be fine after this pay period, but I need to keep a roof over my wife and kids heads, so if you can help, God bless you.
