Talia's Recovery Fund

Donation protected
Hello ,my name is Talia, I am 27 years old, and I am in recovery for anorexia which has plagued 15 years of my life. I had spent so many years thinking recovery was impossible, and so I forced myself to believe I was happy living with the disease--that it suited me. I am only now learning that that was never the case.

I've stood back and watch the disease worsen over the past 4 years; I became addicted to laxatives in 2012, and was imprisoned by my need to spend endless hours at the gym. To add insult to injury, I was also terrified to drink water, and water weight it would add to the number on the scale. On many occasion I had to leave work "sick" when really I was just dehydrated.

Three months ago I finally decided I was sick of living that way, and picked up and left my life in NYC to finally seek treatment. But I was naive to think the recovery process would be quick and easy. I had no idea how long it would take and how much it would cost. I have made so much progress and do not want to give up, but am running out of the money to pay for proper treatment. All money donated here will go directly to my recovery, inclusive of speaking at support groups and fundraisers in and around the South Florida area.

The decision to get help, however, would never have been made if it weren't for Portia de Rossi's "Unbearable Lightness," which I read back in March of 2015. Finding myself in so many aspects of her story, and inspired by her recovery, this book became my bible. And moreover, although it took a few months to gain the strength, it ultimately was the catalyst for change.

It also made me realize how important it is to share our stories with one another; how imperative it is to let others out there know that they are not alone, and that they too can get help. Therefore, I have been blogging my recovery in real time, which you can find here: http://20some.com/15-years-as-a-functioning-anorexic-my-journey-to-healing-pt-1/

I, of course, would appreciate anything at all and am so thankful for those who have read, shared and responded to my journals. I wouldn't have even come this far without the love and support.

I have come so far, but still have a ways to go, and will continue to share my story from here to the finish line.

Thank you so, so much.
