Grandma's Funeral in Kenya
Donation protected
My parents came to America from Kenya in 1986 with two boys and a lot of dreams. Me and my little brother were born later (me in 1989). I have grown up seeing my grandparents on both sides only a handful of times in my life, but always with a strong sense of identity in being the namesake of my cucu (grandmother in Kikuyu, my tribe) on my father's side.
It is something funny that happens when you live thousands of miles away from someone you feel so connected to yet can rarely afford to go visit them. Thankfully, I was able to see my grandma for a a day this past summer, and I cried and cried and cried on my way back to Nairobi because I felt like I was saying goodbye to a part of myself.
Earlier this morning my dad called at a time when he never does, and when I heard his voice on the line I knew that something was wrong. He told me that my cucu had passed away and I have been crying ever since.
Here is where I need your help...I have little in the form of savings largely due to only making about $2,000 monthly after taxes are taken out of my paycheck. I want to go to my grandmother's funeral to honor the woman who in part made me. The woman whose legacy I want to help continue, please help me make this journey. I need $2,500 to cover the last minute plane ticket from New Orleans to Kenya and help me for the fact that I do not get Paid Time Off for work. Please help fund me.
God is good.
