2012 CNN Hero of the Year Pushpa Basnet needs your help! Please read this:

In Nepal because of a lack of social services such as foster care, if a child's parent goes to jail and they lack a legal guardian they are forced to go to jail with them. Even though they are completely innocent of any crimes.

Sometimes children as early as infancy, are forced into the Nepal’s overcrowded prisons and forego a normal childhood, not to mention any education or physical activity that each child deserves.

This is almost hard to believe. But its happening as we speak.

Well Pushpa Basnet has been working for over 8 years now to help with this problem. Through her organization, Pushpa has taken in over 70 children of all ages through the years and provided them with education, medical services, and most importantly a healthy family environment of love.

Her amazing efforts won her the 2012 CNN hero of the year award.

However, as Pushpa’s efforts grow, and she takes on more and more kids (she currently cares for 41 children) her funding remains the same.

She needs our help. A major issue her and her kids face is a lack of safe transportation. The children she takes care of participate in many activities outside of the home such as  organized sports, dance classes, art lessons, cultural outings, and once a year they visit their parents in prison. Pushpa’s organization lacks any sort of School Bus - or car. This forces the children to walk great distances or take public transportation. In Nepal Public transportation can be very dangerous especially for young girls. So when I visited and offered my help she said this is a very specific tangible thing that would make her and her children’s life a lot easier.

Pushpa and her organization are truly a wonderful part of this world. Her children are some of the most vibrant, beautiful kids you will ever meet. They don’t have much, but they are so grateful for what they have.

I first met Pushpa four years ago when I was asked to direct the documentary "Waiting For Mamu". I ended up not being able to direct it, but stayed in touch with her and her organization through the films Executive producer Tom Morgan. We have sent Pushpa money before, and we have direct lines to her that will allow us to get the money to her. Obviously 100% of the money raised will go to Pushpa and her kids. The more money we raise the better! Although the goal is to raise $65,000 for a bus. She could use more than one bus, because each bus only holds 18 children.

Thank you for your time, and I hope you consider giving to this wonder cause. Please watch the video attached. If you have questions or concerns feel free to email me. Thank you! Bless you!
