Injured Philosophy Student's Bills

Dan Coren is a talented and popular graduate student in the Philosophy Department at the University of Colorado.  An international student with a multi-ethnic background, Dan is passionate about his work and about the social value of the study of philosophy.   He has already published one article in a very good journal and has had ten papers accepted at professional conferences.  He is particularly excited about ancient philosophy and has begun to work on a dissertation on Aristotle's physics.

I am his Department Chair and I am posting this request for assistance on Dan's behalf.  Dan recently suffered a serious injury that will require multiple procedures before he can make a full recovery.  His health insurance is only covering a small portion of his total expenses.   By the time he is through with all of the procedures he will have to undergo, he will have to pay just over $6,500 out of pocket.  Needless to say, philosophy graduate students don't have that kind of money in their pockets.
