Several years ago, Creekside Elementary participated in the Accelerated Reading Program... the results were AMAZING! Accelerated Reader truly motivated our students to read DAILY and ultimately catch the love of reading.
Unfortunately, five years ago, the district unfunded the program. Since then, teachers have scrambled to fill the reading comprehension/accountability/responsibility piece of our curriculum and haven't found a program as comprehensive, individual, or motivating.
We can bring the Accelerated Reader Program back to Creekside... if we can fund it! $5000... a small price to pay for 750 confident, flourishing readers ready to succeed in the classroom, college, and career!
How it works:
1. Teachers determine a student's individual reading level and help set a reading goal.
2. Students select a book within their reading level.
3. After reading the book, students take a 3-5 minute quiz to test comprehension.
4. Upon passing the quiz, the student earns the number of points assigned to the book and work towards their goal.
5. After mastering a certain reading level, students advance to the next.
Your donation helps our students win! The 21st century presents many new challenges to our students. We believe the skills necessary to thrive come with critical thinking and comprehension of complex ideas. Reading is one of the best ways we can help our students gain these skills.
