Cranial Helmet for Pippa Garza

Donation protected

Hello! Meet our pumpkin, Pippa.
Pippa was born November 15th, 2016. 2 weeks early. She resides with me, and my husband, Felix.

Pippa's journey goes like this...

I noticed very early on that Pippa only slept on the right side of her head due to a suction needed to get her out via C-section. As early as 1 week old I noticed a
flat spot forming on that same side. Even while bathing her or interacting with her it seemed to progress more and more, but now flattening the back of her head
too. Dr. Reguira sent me to a head shape specialist located in Houston Tx in hopes of an approval to get her a helmet to correct this now severe flatness. She was
now 3 months old.

With the helmet being a great time to wear at 4 months, the time was ticking to get her evaluated. Cranial Technologies agreed that she was in immediate need of a helmet and she was diagnosed with Brachycephaly (brak-ee-sef-uh-lee). Which means her head is wider than normal, and the back of the head is flat rather than
curved.

As a worried mother, I tried for weeks to correct this problem at home by increasing tummy time up to an hour a day. I put a mirror outside of her bassinet to
redirect her head position, and would tilt her head to the sides best she could to relieve pressure off the back of her head. Swings were being used to minimum and
carseat rides were very limited, but nothing seemed to help my pumpkin.

After her free evaluation and a call to her insurance for possible coverage our hearts finally felt hopeful to get this big problem fixed. Unfortunately, we got a call
from Driscoll Medicaid and they denied her coverage for the DOC Band that she so desperately needs.
We explained to them that without this helmet, her face is already having noticeable asymmetry, and that it can misalign her jaw resulting in a crossbite or
underbite, and not to mention problems with sleep apnea. They simply stated it is not covered.

Me and my husband are proud parents when it comes to raising our pumpkin, and for us this is a very hard request to ask of you, but we will do ANYTHING for
our child. Pippa deserves to be able to hold her head high as she develops into a young lady and not grow up ashamed because of her disfigurement that's
completely treatable.

My husband and I sincerely thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read our story. If you could help us in any way I would be forever
grateful.

The cost of the helmet is $1800.00
This cost will cover all of her once a week appointments that she will be needing to attend in Houston Tx at Cranial Technologies. This cost does not include travel
expenses for the 4 hour drive we must take once a week for a minimum of 7 weeks. Pippa will be 4 months on March 15th 2017 and that is the peak this helmet
will be most affective. The longer we wait for treatment, the longer the affectiveness takes. GoFundMe's fee is 5% from each donation we receive. If there happens to be anything left over, it will be put directly into her Savings account for Pippa.
