Chris & Michaela's story...
Chris and Michaela are childhood sweethearts, they have been together for 18yrs and married for 9yrs. If you're lucky enough to know them then you'll know that they are the most genuine, fun, caring, upbeat & positive friends you could ask for! They have such a positive outlook on life and tirelessly help others through their various groups and of course Church.
Those that know them well enough will be aware of their fertility struggles and their failed IVF attempts which were just over 9 years ago now. Neither of them know why the treatment failed, they were simply told that it did not work, the egg was not fertilised.
Now, 9yrs is a long time and we know that science and technology has changed greatly. Improvements in ultra sound technology has allowed more accurate views of developing egg follicles along with the ability to assess the uterus with a high degree of accuracy. Also, with a revolution in the treatment of male infertility with the development of Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), IVF treatment is now safer and more successful than ever before!
With these new advanced treatments Chris & Michaela have been given another chance, they have been given HOPE! I'm sure you're all aware of the cost of IVF treatment, of course all of Chris & Michaela's savings have gone into their earlier IVF attempts. The very reason that they're now selling their family home, their home that has so many sentimental values, the home they've lovingly renovated together. They have no option to sell their home as funding treatment is now their priority. Unfortunately, due to reasons beyond their control their house, which 'sold' pretty quickly has still not been finalised, and may not be for another 8 weeks or more.
This has obviously had such a negative impact on their finances as they continue to pay for their new home & bills. Along with their existing mortgage, rates, home insurance plus the gas & electricity until it can change over to the new owner. That's 9 months of precious IVF funds wasted and 9 months of stress and added anxiety.
Very soon they will both attend their 1st consultation at their chosen Fertility Clinic. Each consultation costs £200.00 So that's £400.00 for them to be separately assessed before any treatment commences. Until they have both been assessed they will not know how much exactly the treatment will cost but we estimate a minimum of £7000.00
This June will see Michaela celebrate her 40th birthday. For obvious reasons she is desperate to start treatment with immediate effect.
So where do YOU come in...
As their friends, family, work colleagues, old school friends, neighbours, whoever you are, if you've struggled with fertility & you understand the longing to have your own child then please help.
Between Chris, Michaela & myself we have roughly 1000 Facebook friends. Imagine if each one of you donated £5.00 that's an amazing £5000.00.
I know many of you will be buying Michaela a card or gift for her 40th birthday. We would love you to reconsider and make a donation instead.
Instead of buying your Saturday morning Costa or Starbucks coffee why not donate the £2.50 to Chris & Michaela instead, make it a weekly thing? Make the donation anonymous if you like. Have a bake sale, a car boot sale or sell your unwanted items on ebay and donate here. If you're able to make a larger more substantial donation then great, we have a very large target so we'd be very grateful.
The thing is , It doesn't matter how big or small your donation is. What matters is, we have two friends that need us and we need to help them. By donating even the smallest amount it's giving them HOPE!
