Since February 2003, Coastal Pet Rescue has been in the business of saying yes to over 2,000 homeless pets. In 2015, 248 canines and 80 felines have found refuge within the foster home organization. Many of these pets need more than just routine vaccinations and spays or neuters. We treat everything from heartworms to orthopedic, skin and eye infections, caring for newborn babies without moms to seniors left behind when their owners pass.

We're often told "I couldn't do what you do." It's hard. There are the stories that make us hurt and wonder what has happened to humanity, like Lucy and Ethel that were seized from having been bait and breeding dogs for dogfighting. There are others that just win our hearts from the start, like little Tinkerbell, a 16-year-old blind and obese mini dachshund left at animal control because her owners could barely care for themselves let alone her. And of course the countless bottle-fed babies that need us so badly from day one to give them a chance a life that they wouldn't have had otherwise.

There are no salaries in Coastal Pet Rescue. We are paid in the gratitude of a puppy's kiss, a kitten's purr, a young child's squeal over their first pet or a family working to fill their hearts with four paws of love.

Unfortunately, that love doesn't pay the veterinary bills, and our vet clinic staff works too hard for too little already.

You can do what we do, simply by supporting the efforts of our volunteers. Make it possible for us to say "YES!" to as many animals that need us as possible. Here's how:

$5 = 1 microchip for an adopted pet
$12 = 1 vaccine for a pet
$20 = 1 heartworm test
$40 = 1 leukemia and FIV test and vaccines for a feline
$50 = 1 round of vaccines for a canine
$60 = 1 round of vaccines and deworming for a puppy
$100 = 1 spay/neuter and pain management for a pet
$500 = 1/2 heartworm treatment for an adult canine
$1000 = emergency surgery for severely injured pet

These costs add up, and without funds to counter them, we cannot do what we do best. It's up to YOU to be the hero and make rescue possible.

Thank you to everyone who has been reading and sharing Baby's story. She is staying overnight for some additional medical care tomorrow, including a cortisol test (requiring her to fast and have draws done over an 8 hour period) and senior lab work. She also needs some dental care to be done with her spay in addition to tending to the mass on her belly. She doesn't appear to have any vision issues which had been a concern, so that's good news for her.

Baby's medical estimate is about $750. Please consider a donation to get her the care she had been denied. We know she's worth every penny.

Gratitude. It's something humans struggle to show, but we get to see almost instantly in the faces of those we rescue.

This afternoon, we brought in BB8, formerly "Game" from Chatham County Animal Control. His family surrendered him two days ago, claiming his "aggression" had become too much, and after having been hit by a car two weeks ago, they were done with him. His broken leg (as reported to us by the AC staff), would have been a death sentence. But our volunteer doing a pick up of another dog was there at the right time, so he got a freedom ride, too.

BB8's leg is not broken, but he does need an expensive FHO surgery. Tonight, he's on pain management and enjoying all the love he can possibly get from his temporary foster family.

Coastal Pet Rescue pulled Zac Brown from Chatham Savannah Animal Control this afternoon. During the freedom ride, the volunteers noticed he had tears running down his cheek.

This is why we do what we do. Thank you for sharing this journey with us!

Jingle, Christmas, Twinkle, and Winter are alive tonight thanks to the kindness of strangers. The vet tells us they are 2.5 to 3 weeks old, and each may lose one eye if not both. They are on formula and getting the best care possible. Please keep them in your prayers that they will get a chance at a long, healthy life.
