Cosmo the Beagle: Medical Bills

Donation protected
From "A-370771" to "Cosmo"...a beautiful beagle, rescued from the grips of experimental lab testing in Memphis, Tennessee.

Cosmo's story is gripping, born and bread to be a laboratory 'specimen' for experimental studies, knowing life only from the confines of a cage, and having a number for a name, Cosmo makes his way from incarceration to freedom and to a family who will love him and provide a home, where the only experiment is to determine how a traumatized beagle can find peace, love, health, and joy for the rest of his life.

An anonymous laboratory animal activist, who assists beagle rescue groups in negotiating release, and allow for adoption after their term of testing is concluded, filled in the blanks to Cosmo's story.

Here's what he shared:

Male Beagle
Laboratory ID Number: (A-370771)
Born 2/15/14

"'Cosmo' and 4 other beagles were going to begin their cycle of testing, but rescuers fought the well-known pharmaceutical company, negotiating to allow them to be adopted rather than euthanized.  They later discovered that the beagles had been dumped by an employee of the research facility in the nearby woods late November, 2015.

Cosmo was disheveled, malnourished at 15lbs, and scared.  He seemed damaged. But, gradually, he will begin to trust everyone in his new home. After resisting to move out of his crate again and again, the dog one day leaned in and nuzzled his neck. From that moment, "Cosmo" began to give love as well as receive it. With the typically unforgettable personality of a beagle, over the next month and a half he taught all the people who came into contact with him the value of living utterly in the present, of meeting each day with a good bark, and of moving forward in life without being dragged down by past grief.

He lived in a cage for the beginning of his life, he didn’t have a name, just a number, he wasn't  loved, and maybe mistreated. Yet, removed from the only environment he had ever known, he is flourishing.  He now touches the heart of anyone who has ever loved a dog."

We feel fortunate that Cosmo has made his way to our home and family. We celebrate Cosmo's resilient spirit with a will to thrive and a family ready to help him actualize his greatness in the world. We will work diligently to give him the peace and love he has never known, but for the care of the Blytheville Humane Society in Arkansas, where Lisa Childers & Pam Ford, nurtured him back to health from starvation, flea infestation, trauma, loneliness & fear. These heroes worked tirelessly to escort Cosmo to his new, bright, loving life!

Cosmo will use his life force to shine a light on the atrocities of laboratory experimentation on animals.

COSMO'S MEDICAL NEEDS:

Cosmo was infected with heart worms while incarcerated with the pharmaceutical lab research facility.  (estimated cost: $600)

While imprisoned there, his caretakers fed him low quality, canned food, and his teeth are rotting.  Several teeth need to be extracted, and the others need to be cleaned to prevent further catastophic health issues. (estimated cost: $1200)

Veterinary checkup and shots ($200).

Cosmo's medical needs are in progress and will be delivered over the next 2 months.

Any donations above the actual costs of Cosmo's medical bills will be donated to his rescuers, the Blytheville Humaine Society.

Our family, Jule, Maurice, Milo, Kali, and Cosmo, are profoundly grateful for your contribuitons to changing a beagle's life.
