Continuing Carcinoid Cancer Journey

Donation protected
For those who have followed my journey of the past three years, you know I'm living with neuroendocrine cancer, and have been pretty successful at it!
My plan for this year (YES, I keep making plans....) was to schedule this 'quick' repair surgery related to my first major (not the minor in betweens) over a break and get back to work.  No problem.

Well, here is the reality.  I am allotted 10 days per school year (and if you used to teach, it's not the same: we don't get to have pools that everyone contributes to anymore, so 10 days is it); I've used mine every year since the first surgery, and have already used 5 this year due to appointments and other 'minor' surgery (the one where I suffered at work for 3 days thinking I would just 'make it').

So....I'm having surgery next Monday.  I'll be in the hospital for 3-5 days.  That should be a piece of cake, financially speaking!  The long and short is that I figured I would use up my days next week, take the holiday break, go to my post-op 2 week appointment and only miss one day unpaid.

I'm not sure at what point I realized that was unreasonable; possibly the point at which my doctor stressed again this was much like surgery #1-in recovery time, at least.  So, I'm still only taking 4 weeks (doctor thinks 6 is more reasonable), but that leaves 2 weeks unpaid (YES-we have a SHORT holiday break....), with the potential for other days through the spring.

I get docked about $250/day each day that I go 'over' my 10 days.  I've calculated 15 days lost.  I could go over that.  I honestly don't know.
What I do know is that I am grateful to anyone who feels compelled to help me feel a little less guilty about staying home and recovering, properly.

Peace & Love,
Stephanie
