Conservation Through Education
Most Kenyan children will never see Kenya’s iconic mega-fauna such as the critically endangered black rhinoceros, African elephant, lion, giraffe, Grevy zebra, and cheetahs in their natural habitat. Not only are park visits too expensive, but most schools do not have buses.
We believe that our children are the future guardians of our wildlife and that is why we must do more than educate them on theory. Wildlife Warriors at WildlifeDirect is a program that was inspired by children themselves during a workshop on how to create a generation of Wildlife Warriors. They said they wanted meaningful trips to parks so we organize citizen science trips to count wildlife working alongside world class scientists. They said they want to make a difference so we conduct litter clean ups and tree planting in parks and forests. They also said they wanted to learn from each other, so we host three camping trips in the wilderness with children from diverse backgrounds to work together and solve conservation challenges.
We promote curiosity, exploration and play and we celebrate that magical moment of discovery which we know will remain etched in a child’s mind forever. Support Wildlife Warriors by making a donation to bring a child to a National Park. By reconnecting our children to nature and wildlife they will not only fall in love but be inspired to value and act to conserve it. For 20 dollars you can sponsor one child for a day trip, for 200 dollars we can give them a 3 day camping trip at any of the National Parks and Reserves.
Who are we?
WildlifeDirect is a high impact Kenyan conservation organization with 501 3 C status in USA. Our mission is “Connecting Kenyans to their wildlife and nature and inspiring them to value and act to conserve it”.
What are we doing?
We organize school visits, show films, and carry out conservation activities. We also hold field trips to parks and forests and provide supporting materials, wildlife fact books and activity books that children can take away.
Our programs are inspired by a genuinely African vision of development that has the health of the environment at its very heart and is understood not only as a cornerstone of our cultural identity, but also as the precondition for achieving all our other goals.
Why does any of this matter?
When children fall in love with wildlife and nature they will act to protect and save it. By fostering a generation of wildlife warriors we are inspiring them to be conservation leaders. Children from as young as 5years old participate in our programs, which also create training ground for volunteers.
How can you help us?
Your donation will allow us enlist thousands of Kenyan children in our field courses. Donations cover the cost of logistics, transport, park fees, security, food, camping gears, and learning materials. Make a donation in the name of someone you love and double your impact by inviting your friends and family to do the same. You will receive a digital photograph and newsletters on the field trips to show you how your money is working to save wildlife.
Make a gift today and help us empower children to become Wildlife warriors. Every single penny counts.
