Connor's Bursary for Mental Illness

On Monday, August 27th, 2018, Connor Napoli tragically and suddenly passed away. Connor’s family sadly lost a son, brother, grandson, cousin, nephew and friend.

Connor Napoli was first and foremost a kind person with an infectious smile. He thought constantly of other people and often put their own feelings above his own. This is what makes the tragedy of his death that much worse. Connor was plagued by mental illness. While never being formally diagnosed with depression, it is clear that he suffered deeply in his own mind. This depression came to a point where Connor felt his only option was to end his own life; a life of passion for his family and friends, for hockey (especially the Ottawa Senators) and board games, and for constantly learning new things.

Connor’s family and friends have decided to honor him by creating the Connor Napoli Bursary for Students. This Bursary will provide support to students experiencing mental health issues. Although not his only source of stress, Connor had financial problems during and after his days as a student. This fund looks to ease that burden for students at Laurentian University with mental health challenges experiencing similar pressures.

Connor would have loved to see something positive come out of his hardships. When he was alive, he always made efforts to understand people and help their situation however he could. One of his favourite hobbies, acting as a dungeon master and hosting Dungeons and Dragons campaigns, is a great example of his love for making others happy through storytelling and comedy.

Connor will be greatly missed and we want his generosity to continue through the annual awarding of this bursary.
