Saying Goodbye to Connie Bowman
$2,778 of $15,000 goal
Connie Bowman was a beloved mother, wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to everyone she met. She was a wonderful soul.
Connie passed on July 27, 2017 and the three of us, her daughters Alicia and Chelsa and son-in-law Asher, are raising money for her funeral costs and other final expenses. Since she didn't have a will or a life insurance policy, it's very important that we raise these funds.
Since Connie had been disabled for many years, had a lot of medical debt over her long illness, and unexpectedly lost her husband, Roger, the primary earner of the family, in 2015, she didn't leave much behind, besides a lot of people who loved her very much.
The funds we raise in this campaign will go to funeral costs, an estate lawyer, final debts, and any other costs that may arise.
Any leftover funds will be donated to the Jackson County Cancer Fund, who helped Connie many, many times throughout her illness.
We want to thank everyone who helped! We're still going to keep some money aside for costs related to cleaning the house (and keeping the heat on while we do it!) but once that's done we'll make our donation to the Jackson County Cancer Fund.
We've turned off donations, and I'll be back to update with the final donation to the JCCF in the next few weeks!
Thanks to each and every one of you who helped. You really made a difference.
We finally got all the necessary paperwork in with the lawyer, who is in the process of getting it filed for us. Once that's done we'll be able to get some things fixed up that we've had to sit on for a while, like bills we need to switch over into Alicia's name and such.
Things have been slow because Alicia and I have been moving (Chelsa will be living with us too when school is out of session). That's actually something we started on before Connie passed away -- the idea was she'd move with us and we'd all have a lot more room compared to the three of us crammed in a little apartment.
Also, for the purposes of transparency, I thought I should mention that the money we've raised for Connie's final expenses is in a completely separate bank account from ours, and none of that money was touched at any point in all of this except for paying bills related to the trailer, the lawyer, and the funeral home.
We are still making payments on the funeral. At last check I think we had just a little above $2000 left on that. We won't need to make payments to the lawyer, we've paid him in full thanks to the money we've raised here! We do still have a few other things to pay, but we have to wait for the filing to be done before we can mess with that, so we don't really know what that will look like.
For now, I don't think we have a major need to raise money (that may change if new expenses come up), but you're welcome to still contribute. Again, any fundraiser money left over will go to the Jackson County Cancer Fund!
Even if you didn't make it (maybe you don't live in Kentucky, for example) that's totally okay! You are still great!
We've made some good progress so far, and we did have some people give us money in-person, which we've already put toward the funeral costs. I also got the first withdrawal from GoFundMe, which is also going to the funeral costs later this week after the deposit completes.
Thank you all so much for your support, and if you've not already, share the link to this fundraiser with someone else who may want to contribute!
