For many of our brothers and sisters behind the wall, sending their children a birthday gift or birthday card are tasks that lay outside of their reach. Sending a holiday card or gift are all but impossible and until they return home, these simple gestures are magnified to incredible proportions. Often overlooked by the general public, it is common nature for us to go about the routines of our day forgetting that today is the personal holiday for a child who does not have his/her mother/father beside them.
It is with great pride and enthusiasm that Ashé International, Inc. introduces: “Con Cariño”. An initiative geared towards addressing this very issue and ensuring that the children of our brothers and sisters behind the wall can be provided with tangible reminders of the fact that their parents love them. Their parents miss them. Their parents have not forgotten them.
Through this initiative, we will be providing holiday and birthday cards and gifts to the children of our communal brothers and sisters who are incarcerated. This would be accomplished by receiving requests via mail from either the individual who is incarcerated or a member of their family with information on the age of the child, the gender of the child, the occasion, the address where the card will be sent, and the address of the parent who is incarcerated. Messages from the parent are encouraged and will be hand-written into the card. A photo copy of the card will be made and mailed to the parent who is incarcerated. Gifts will be modest as the intent is not to be lavish be rather loving.
The creation of this initiative is inspired by the unconditional love and support countless individuals provide for their friends and family behind the wall. It is in their honor that we seek to not only assist in the celebration of birthdays and holidays for children whose parents are unable to be by their side, but also to remind these children that they are celebrated EVERY day, not just on one day.
The ability for a parent to put a smile on the face of their child may hold the key to unlocking the door to a life of positivity and prosperity.
