Comet, Our Dear Dog, Needs Surgery

Donation protected
Over three months ago, Comet, our beloved dog, tore her ACL (its technically called a CCL in a dog) while playing with me outside. She has been unable to walk ever since. Initially, we thought that the surgery to repair the ligament was more elective, since it didn't seem like she was in pain and we hoped it would heal on its own over time. Sometimes, in very small dogs, this is the case, since their bodies are lighter and put less stress on the knee. This is a back leg injury, so the limb normally bears a lot of weight.

Comet has gotten no better and we took her to get a second opinion. Not only did this vet say that surgery would be the only way to restore Comet's function, but she also told us she's in chronic pain now (which explains why she's been grumpy and has lost her usually joyous disposition). Over time, without the operation, the pain and debility will get worse.

The surgery is very expensive and we don't have the money to pay for the operation. We are hoping that some of our friends and family who know how important Comet is to us can help by giving just a little bit. As parents with no "real" children, Comet has been an integral cog in our little family for nearly 8 years. She's more than "just a pet." As I'm autistic and battle daily PTSD, anxiety, and chronic clinical depression, Comet also serves as an emotional support animal for me. I love to take walks because it mitigates my anxiety and improves my mood, but I have missed her company on my walks over the past three months. My anxiety is higher and I find myself not wanting to go out and about. Comet used to accompany me on my errands with her vest and be permitted in and out of businesses as well. Now, all she can do is lie in her bed, where she groans periodically and shivers. I would love to give her back her life, restore her ability to get out in the world, improve her health by allowing her to be active again, taking away her pain, and giving me back my companion.
If you have any questions or want to see an itemized estimate for her surgery, please let us know.
