Columbia Canine Sports Center Reborn

$5,300 of $5,000 goal

The Columbia Canine Sports Center in Columbia MO has been Columbia's premiere dog and dog sport and training facility for over 10 years. In the past two years alone, there have been more than 2000 enrollments in classes,  including obedience, rally, agility, tracking, barn hunt, and more. CCSC has also hosted many dog sporting events through the years, open and free to the public.

Perhaps the biggest role that CCSC has played in the community is helping Columbians with puppy and basic pet manners classes. Local- and woman-owned, it is a true asset to dog owners, not only in Columbia but around the state and even the country as people have traveled to events at the facility. For many of us, CCSC is our home away from home, a place to meet friends and train our dogs in a positive and fun atmosphere.

On January 12, 2019, Columbia had a record snowfall of between 17" and 20". The main Columbia Canine Sports Center building collapsed under the load. No one expected that to happen. The building was designed by a Canadian company and specifically constructed to shed snow. Past deep snowfalls had not been of any significance. The conclusion is that the ice storm that preceded this event, along with the extreme wetness of the snow, was too much.

CCSC was insured, but there are many, many costs that will not be covered, including the deductible and thousands of dollars in equipment lost forever. The owners are planning to rebuild, but they need help. Our help. They have been reluctant to ask, which is why this campaign is just now starting, a month after the event and as crews start to demolish the ruins. Honestly, the number they need to reach to  get back to where they were is $200,000. We can't hope to raise that much. But we do hope you will chip in what you can to help some really good people bring back a needed facility to what it was, and maybe even beyond.

Thank you so much. Every tiny bit helps.37059848_1550090239237042_r.jpeg37059848_1550090254363512_r.jpeg37059848_1550090275624782_r.jpeg37059848_1550090289826394_r.jpeg37059848_155009030777404_r.jpeg37059848_1550090330489948_r.jpeg37059848_155009034655092_r.jpeg

Upcoming Equipment/salvage Fundraiser at CCSC!

CCSC will be holding a fundraiser on Saturday, March 16, from 10 am to 2 pm. They will be selling some of the CCSC -owned salvage from the building (including some slightly smashed tunnels, etc.), but also welcome others to bring dog-related items to sell. There will be crates (small, medium, and large, some mesh), some collars and leashes (used and new), and other items left from the building.

We will also do a 50/50 raffle, and Jon Sarabia will be in attendance and will be setting up a giant nosework puzzle on the big outdoor pad for you and your dogs to play on! Lois Stevens will have some great T-shirts for sale!

If you would like to sell something at the event, you are welcome to bring it, please have it on site by 9:30 am. You will be responsible for pricing it, etc. If you leave your items there, it will be understood that CCSC will collect 100% of profits. If you would like to stay and oversee your items, please plan on donating at least 50% of your sales to the fundraiser. Items not sold must be removed from the site the same day, so even if you leave your items, you will need to come back and check and remove any unsold; CCSC shouldn't have to arrange disposal of your items. Please don't bring items that are in poor condition or broken.

If you had a crate or other items at CCSC and you have not yet checked to see if they survived or removed them, please do so before the sale or they will be offered for sale with the rest.

Thank you so much!

We are getting close to our goal, please do not falter! If you could share just a few more times, we can make it.

The big building is completely down now. The view from the driveway looks so strange! Ginger and Kathy are continuing to meet with adjusters and the construction foreman. Meanwhile, we will hold an equipment sale on March 16. Times to come, but plan on approximately 9 to 1 or 10 to 2. There will be crates, collars, leashes, and excess items from the building for sale, as well as a "tip jar" for the building. Please come and pick up some things for your dogs!

We are getting much closer to our goal, and progress is also being made on the CCSC teardown. Which sounds awful, but you can't build until the remains are gone.

We are also trying to arrange an equipment sale, and if anyone is available to coordinate that, it would be hugely appreciated! Just contact me, Robin.
