Colour for Children's Mental Health

Hey Team! I am currently on my way to studying Primary Teaching. I work in a Before & After School Care with so many fantastic children that put a smile on my face everyday, as I try to do the same for them. Unfortunately, not every child that comes into school everyday has been able to share a smile - and I want to take a step to help change this since those toothless smiles are my favourite! 

Unfortunately, I think mental health for young children can be put on the back burner and is not usually considered. We think of teenagers, we hear of young 20's and with Movember coming up - we hear about their campaign to help men through mental health. I wanted to raise my own funds throughout November, and since I can't grow a stash, I thought I'd do my own thing and change my hair colour. 

The money from this fundraiser will be going towards foundations that promote and support families in different ways: supporting children in families with drug/alcohol abuse, counselling sessions for families who are struggling for different reasons, children who suffer from domestic violence as well as providing services to assist parents in parenting. I will be dividing up the money into causes I investigate, and will be sure to share with you along the way what I am looking at. I've done some activities with kids to help them connect with their emotions, and most of them have been associated around colours and how they make them feel. After they allocate the colours that make them feel certain emotions, they coloured in their heart of how much of that emotion takes up their heart. It was amazing to see their opinions of how they feel and how much of them may be happy, sad, angry, excited, crazy, calm and sleepy.

Throughout the month and weeks to follow, I will be changing my hair colour as a symbol of what these colours have represented to the children and how they make them feel. I love to see their reaction when I come in with a shocking new colour and they want to touch and feel it and tell me all the things I remind them of that also put a smile on their face - I look forward to sharing this with you and I hope you can spare some pennies. 

I have chosen 1800 as the goal because it is the number that most help lines start with! Its a big reach, but I am hoping with your help I can get there! I will keep the crazy colouring until then!
