Support Colorado Springs's first biofuel cooperative! We can localize our energy and money with sustainable biofuel made from waste vegetable oil from local restaurants!
Here's the plan: The Colorado Springs Biofuel Cooperative (CSBC) will begin to produce biodiesel from WVO (Waste Vegetable Oil) using the open source Appleseed proccesser. We think using local vegetable oil to power our diesel engines is far superior to foreign oil or non-local corn or soybean oil.
This first phase will make use of energy normally thrown away - waste vegetable oil - thus creating a sustainable, closed loop process from restaurant oil waste to usable transportation fuel.
According to state vehicle registration data, there are approximately 14,000 diesel vehicles in the county. Imagine the boost to sustainability for our area by creating new capacity to produce local fuel for vehicles! Once biodiedel production is off and running, the CSBC would like to expand into biofuel alternatives for gasoline engines.

As petroleum becomes harder and more costly to extract - and Asian markets willing to pay more to meet their growing demand - Colorado Springs needs a committed group of citizens who are investigating and creating alternative energy options. The Colorado Springs Biofuel Coop will be a strong player in alternative transportation energy in the Colorado Springs area.
