Color For College 2020

Hello, from the Emerald STEAM Magnet Middle School (EmSTEAM) School Counseling Team!  Our goal is to ensure that EVERY student discovers their passion and has the tools to achieve their full potential.  Our counseling program focuses on teaching the academic, personal, social and college/career skills to be successful in high school and beyond.  Connecting students' learning to future postsecondary goals is one of the most effective ways to increase engagement.

Research shows that college awareness in middle school acts as a motivator, leads students to focus on their futures, and improves students’ school performance. In our quest to help students explore the vast number of college and career opportunities, we strive to provide hands on learning experiences.  Our goal is to take our 6th-8th grade students on one college field trip per year.

To fund these college and career exploration activities, we do Color For College, a color run fundraiser designed to promote college readiness.  This year's Color For College is on April 3, 2020! To participate in the run, students must raise a minimum of $10 each.  The more money they raise, the more color powder they get to throw!  Profits from Color For College will be used to fund college field trips, bussing, lunch at the universities, and student incentives to promote college/career readiness and awareness of postsecondary opportunities.

With the funds from our third annual Color For College last year, we were able to take students to UCSD, USD, and SDSU.

We are asking for donations to support individual students in raising money to participate in Color For College, for the Color For College event (e.g. t-shirts, color powder, squeeze bottles for color powder), and for college field trips (e.g. bussing, lunch at the university).

Check out our school's website at www.cajonvalley.net/emerald.

If you would like to sponsor a specific student, please add their name in the notes.  Thank you for your support in creating educational opportunities for our students!

Sincerely,

Ashley Maher, Bree Galster, Tiffany Naoom, and the EmSTEAM students!
