Colonel Young's Birth Cabin Project

Donation protected
Black Veterans have been working to preserve Black Military History and disseminate information regarding our historic contributions in the defense of the nation.

We are seeking public support to fund a feasibility study on the birth cabin of Colonel Charles Young located in Mays Lick, Kentucky. Located on thirty-eight acres with the cabin is a main house, two barns and an equestrian track. We lobbied the Mason County Fiscal Court to purchase the property to save the cabin from implosion. In 2013 we unveiled the restored structure in a public ceremony. While the structure in it restored state will stand another centuries plus, there is still work to be done. We must determine the best forum for presenting the cabin and property to the public; be it an education center, museum or conference facility, etc.  (Cabin Photographs before and after.)

The fifty-thousand dollars we are seeking will allows us to acquire the necessary studies to move the preservation and transformation of the property forward. Your assistance will help conduct a national survey of educational, cultural and civic organizations for input in how the project should proceed in development.

Funds raised beyond our goal will be used to support worked on the property and other relevant projects promoting the history of the Colonel Charles Young Corridor, the route designated between Mays Lick, Kentucky and Wilberforce, Ohio
