Colonel Young Stage Production

Black Veterans have been working to preserve Black Military History and disseminate information regarding our historic contributions in the defense of the nation.
We are seeking public support to fund a Stage Production on the life and times of the legendary Colonel Charles Young; third Black Graduate of West Point Military Academy and highest ranking Black Officer in the United States Armed Forces throughout most of his military career spanning over three decades. Aside from his distinguished military service, the Colonel was a musician, music composer, poetry and play-write. Working with historians and script editors, we have completed per production on the scripting of the ninety minute presentation. His musical compositions will be the soundtrack of his life’s story with his poetry providing a reflection of his thoughts living the experiences.
The pre production work was performed as in-kind contributions from the National Afro American Museum and Culture Center, in Wilberforce, Ohio, the National Minority Military Museum Foundation, Golden Buffalo Productions and Pajama Studios in Oakland, California and BlaqueIce Productions located in Anchorage, Alaska.
The fundraising goal is five hundred thousand dollars. The funds will offset production cost including music rehearsals and performance fees for the eighty piece symphony orchestra, the rental of the performance venue, acquire historical footage for presentation, choreographed with the music and oral presentations. We plan to invite celebrity talents to deliver the history oratories. The production will be video recorded and made available on DVD to the general public, schools and public libraries nationwide. Our ultimate fundraising goal is five million dollars.
The production will be presented as a fundraiser to support Black Military History Projects located around the nation. Our funding priority will be the Colonel Charles Young Statue project; the Birth Cabin project in Mays Lick, Kentucky, and the National Afro American Museum and Cultural Center in Wilberforce, Ohio. In addition, we would like to establish a statue commemorating the Buffalo Soldiers in the San Francisco/Oakland/Bay Area.
These projects do not rate high among typical funding sources. The only way they will survive is with public support. With your support we will premiere the Stage Production and host a National gathering of Black Veteran Organizations for the premiere in June 2018.
All Contributors names will be placed on a donors list that will be archived in the museum with a copy of the Production titled, “The Legendary Colonel Charles Young: The Man, the Mission and the Facts.”
