Collin McClearn's Road to Recovery

Donation protected

In an instant our worst nightmares can turn into reality. On February 20th, 2017, Collin McClearn, 23 years old and still in the prime years of his life, had his world changed forever when his vehicle was struck by another motorist who disregarded their safety and the safety of others as they blew through a stop sign.  This act not only cost themselves the ultimate price of their own lives, but also forever changed the life of Collin and those who love him.  Police reports indicated the other driver was travelling in excess of 50mph as they errantly ran the stop sign and collided with the left front side of the truck that Collin was driving.  Collin spent the next hour pinned and trapped inside of his vehicle as EMS and Firefighters fought to free him.  Once out of the vehicle, Collin was airlifted to a local area hospital where doctors worked feverishly in efforts to repair the damage that had been done. Early indications show that Collin will never be able to walk again and will suffer permanent paraplegia as result of the accident. Collin had portions of his fragmented T12 vertebrae removed from his spinal cord and his back has been surgically repaired with pins, needles and a rod from his T10-L2 vertebrae, which was added for support.  In addition, Collin is also suffering from two broken ribs and is in constant and tremendous pain. Collin is a remarkable young man and has an incredible heart and will.  There is no doubt that he will fight and get stronger every day, however he knows it will be a long road to recovery and is in need of support. Collin became a first time father in October to a beautiful baby girl, Abigail McClearn, and asked the love of his life, Briana Moyer, to marry him in late December.  Their family is only just beginning and is already being asked more out of them than the majority of us will ever have to deal with.  Briana traveled to a rehabilitation center in Atlanta, on February 28th, several hours from home, to assist and support Collin in his eight week long rehabilitation. He is learning how to live with the reality of having lost the use of his legs. It may be months, if not years, before Collin is able to get back to work. Briana, having just started a new job, has no accrued time to draw from and may not be able to return as she will be caring for Collin and for Abigail.   The money that is raised will give them the chance to keep their family together during this painstaking time. Hopefully Collin’s story will resonate with you, and you are able to donate to help out their family.  The money raised will help with the day to day expenses and keep their daughter fed and clothed as well as pay for upcoming medical expenses.  If you are unable to provide financial support we hope you share this story and that it helps you tell someone you love and care about them.  Hug your loved ones deeper, kiss your love ones longer, and cherish the time that you get to spend with them. The blink of an eye can flip your world upside down, so don’t take any moments for granted, as we don’t truly know how many we have left.
