Cody Guttierrez’s Road to Recovery

This past Sunday, August 4th, the unthinkable happened to a group of best friends coming back from a bachelor trip weekend. Cody Guttierrez was riding shotgun in his best friend Jonathan's truck along with two other lifelong friends when a driver crossed through the interstate median in Harrison County, MS and hit them head-on. The future groom, Jonathan, died from his injuries. Cody, Brad and Jared were all severely injured and immediately taken to several hospitals in Gulfport. Cody went straight into surgery to have his ruptured spleen removed. During surgery, doctors realized Cody's injuries were more severe than originally thought and said he needed to go to a hospital better equipped to handle his injuries. He was then airlifted to USA Medical Center in Mobile, AL where he is currently still in ICU. Cody's injuries include having his spleen removed, a fractured hip, 10 broken ribs, his left knee/ACL is torn, left hand is fractured, and his left foot and ankle are broken.

Cody has a very long road to recovery with multiple surgeries to come. Being two hours away from his home doesn't make things any easier for his wife, two young children and family. While he does have health insurance and a supportive job, we all know how expensive unexpected tragedies like this can add up to be. There will be enormous medical costs for the Guttierrez family.
