Coconut Tree Planting

My name is Ebun Feludu. 10 years ago I went on an epic expedition from Lagos to London, through the Sahara to raise awareness about desertification and the importance of tree planting. That journey changed my life.
If you've ever been to my home you will know how much we love flowers and greenery. My two sons have caught the green bug too❤
My boys Anaborhi and Joba started their own company called JAM The Coconut Food Company www.jamcoconutfoods.com as a summer project in 2016. This company processes a wide range of coconut products from coconutoil, coconutmilk, coconutwater, coconut energy balls, so we deal with a lot of coconuts.
As the company grew, I became more and more involved. Last year we set up a factory in a coastal community called Okun Ajah, Lagos and a policy to hire 80% women as our staff.
We also noticed that many of our staff would make away with coconuts because they simply needed to feed their families.
This was when we started thinking of the idea to plant coconut trees in public spaces.
So I am not crossing the Sahara again, (not this time anyway) but I do want to plant some trees.
To celebrate the 10th year anniversary of my Desert Crossing, my kids and I have declared August 1st World Coconut Tree Planting Day.
Why coconut trees?
Well because trees are beautiful, they offer shade and even better when they bear the best fruit on earth- COCONUTS.
The coconut can produce over 100 different products for foods, oils and health benefits.
Lagos State Parks and Gardens has graciously offered us parks, gardens and public spaces to plant 2000 coconut trees. (We are going for 1milliom but we will start here) Also because the trees will be planted in public spaces the coconuts will help to curb hunger for those who need it.
How awesome is that!!Imagine walking around in your community and being surrounded not just by trees but food trees.
