As temperatures begin to plunge below zero in the US, many refugees who arrived here from Manus and Nauru with not much more than the clothes on their backs will be bracing for their very first North American winter.
That’s why Aussies in the USA are coming together to buy warm clothing for refugee children ($39), adults ($59), and even whole families ($199).
Ads-Up (Australian Diaspora Steps Up) is a volunteer network connected with more than 200 US-based refugees from Manus and Nauru.
Many live paycheck to paycheck without adequate heating, warm bedding, or good clothing – so we want to make sure they receive a warm Aussie welcome this winter.
We have an ambitious goal of buying warm clothing for every refugee resettled from Manus or Nauru who needs it, but we can’t do that without Aussies like you stepping up an chipping in.
We believe this small gesture will show these people – some of who are lonely as they’re finding their way in a strange new country – that there are people thinking of them and caring for them.
Not because we have to, but because of who we are.
