Coats For the Navajo People

Donación protegida
My name is James Beck.

In 2012, I helped out the Native American community on the Navajo Nation. As a result, I developed a lot of friendships. One of those friends reached out to me with a “Call for Help”.

She asked, "James, can you ask your friends to donate coats they’ve outgrown or don’t use? Many people out here don't have running water, electricity, or coats. Kids and adults are freezing."

So I called my buddy, Thomas Bush (the guy on the right) & he agreed to help.

We have been collecting coats around our community. In order to help more people, we are putting this Go-Fund-Me campaign together so that everyone who wants can be part of our Navajo Service Adventure can do so with a simple donation.

The Navajo Nation is a rough place to live. There is little opportunity & over 70% unemployment. Money is tight. Plus, it's cold - really cold! The weather often swings 30 degrees from day to day, so layering with a good coat is important. The problem is: many people on the Navajo Nation don't have electricity, running water, or COATS!

Thomas & I are raising money to buy second-hand coats for the Navajo & Hopi people in need.  As money comes in, we will go to the Goodwill & Salvation Army to purchase as many coats as we can (all sizes - kids & adults). The first week of January, we will deliver the coats.

Since our trip to Navajo country is set for early January, PLEASE donate early so we have plenty of time to buy coats.  All donations will be used to purchase coats or pay for transportation costs.

You may wonder, Why am I doing this?

When I first visited the Navajo Nation – February 2012 – I was going through the most difficult situation of my life. My heart was broken & faith betrayed. The Navajo people took me & treated me like family. Their love & acceptance helped me heal.

Time passed & now my difficult situation is a distant memory. I’m happier than ever, but my friends are still having a tough time - they need coats! Most of us in America deal with fashion while our native brothers & sisters are freezing. So, Thomas & I are going to do what we can to help them. I hope you join us.  The more donations we get, the more people we can keep warm.

It would mean the world to me if you donated. Our goal is to bring at least 100 coats to our Native American friends. With your help, we’ll be able to bring a lot of coats (maybe even 1000 - whoohoo)!

My Medicine Man friend is going to help us bring coats to the people.
