Coal City Catholic Church Campaign

The parishioners of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Coal City, IL have embarked upon a major church renovation, after over a decade of fundraising to support the project.  The building under renovation is our original church, over 125 years old.  The doors of our church have, and continue to be, open to all parishioners, visiting Catholics, vacationers in need of mass and the Eucharist, and non-catholics who are welcome to hear the gospel message.   Because of a heartfelt desire that the original beauty of our historical building is maintained, we have taken great care to preserve history wherever possible.   Refurbishing stained glass windows, bell and bell tower, metal ceiling, statues and crucifix, and nativity grotto, are just some of the historical components of our church that we want to preserve, rather than discard and replace with new.  This, along with unexpected problems due to the age of the building and original construction, has caused our project debt to significantly increase.   As a result, many necessities such as the purchase of a new organ, a high altar for holy mass, and additional statues and artwork to beautify the Lord's home, must be placed on hold until our $1.2M debt is paid down.

 

This request of you, a potential donator and steward, is happening at a time when the USA is assaulted by fires, floods, tornados and hurricanes of the greatest magnitude.   We know that good people everywhere are digging deep to donate to these catastrophes.   In the past 4 years, our own town of 5,500 people was directly hit, not once but twice by tornados that changed the lives of so many.  Our focus during these times of need was to support the relief efforts, thus placing building funding activities on hold. 

 

The renovation of our church has been underway for over a year, and we are in need of generous financial gifts to bring this renovation to successful completion in the most timely way possible; not only for the worship of God, but also out of love for Him.   Through this ambitious project we will provide, not only for our current needs, but for the needs of future generations.
