Clinton Police K-9 Team

The Clinton Police Department is seeking assistance in raising funds to implement and support our new K9 program.  Officer Jason Frey has been selected to become the department’s next K9 Handler.  Jason has been with the Clinton Police Department for the past 5 years, serving in numerous capacities. Prior to his service with the Department, he served in the United States Army for 8 years and was deployed as an Infantryman to Afghanistan. Officer Frey is a Clinton resident with numerous ties to the community.

He and his K9 partner will be required to complete a rigorous 12 week training and certification course.

This course is designed to meet or exceed national best practice standards and will focus on narcotics detection & interdiction, tracking and patrol work. The course will culminate in multiple certifications through:

·         The Connecticut Work Dog Association.
·         National Police Canine Association.
·         North American Police Work Dog Association.

These certifications will insure that the Clinton Police Department’s K9 unit can operate in a self-sufficient and legally sound manner and in accordance with current case law at both the State and Federal levels.

Working closely with a K9 Master Trainer and breeder, a K9 will be selected so that it specifically meets the needs of the Town of Clinton and the Police Department, which are:

·       Obedience and social temperament.
·       Narcotics detection.
·       Tracking.
·       Patrol work.

Our goal is to raise at least $15,000.00 dollars to implement, certify and maintain our K9 team into the future, meeting the highest possible standards.  A well trained K9 team greatly expands the capabilities of a uniformed officer and improves safety and compliance. We greatly appreciate any donation, which will allow us to deliver these specialized and important services to Clinton and the shoreline.
