Don't widen N. Highland Lake Road!

The Flat Rock village council is holding a meeting and possible VOTE on this project on June 19 at 10:00 a.m. in the parish hall of St. John. We need to get the word out to the community!

Be a part of preserving Flat Rock--the historic and rural character of our village is under siege. You can also mail checks to: CLG, P.O. Box 1675, Flat Rock, NC 28731.

The Cultural Landscape Group:Flat Rock is working to stop NCDOT project U-5887 that will widen and straighten N. Highland Lake Road, including cutting down numerous trees, taking private property for a nonessential purpose, increasing speed on the road, and infringing on Flat Rock's designation on the National Register of Historic Places.

This project was not initiated by NCDOT and the road has no safety or traffic capacity issues. Our village council has the power to stop this project.

Funds raised here will be used for public outreach efforts so that all Flat Rock citizens will know what is happening and the long-term consequences of this project on our village. If this project moves forward, it will impact all future road projects in the village.

CLG:Flat Rock has already funded yard signs, car stickers, and informational mailers to Flat Rock residents. Now we're asking for your help to continue getting accurate information out to the public!

We are dedicated to preserving the character and history of Flat Rock, North Carolina, as reflected through its landscape, including roads, bridges, pathways, and greenways.
