Access to Clean Water - Puerto Rico

1 MILLION PUERTO RICANS ARE STILL WITHOUT ACCESS TO CLEAN AND SAFE DRINKING WATER.
Puerto Rico is entering a colossal water crisis! In the wake of Hurricane Maria, over 1 million children and adults are going without clean, safe, drinkable water on the island.
Over 1 million Puerto Ricans still do not have access to drinking water and boiling orders remain in effect. It’s been OVER a month since Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, and municipal water services are still not available to about a third of the people on the island.
Consuming unsafe drinking water can cause children and adults to suffer from preventable diseases and infections. Absent, inadequate, or inappropriately managed water and sanitation services expose individuals to avoidable health risks, such as cholera, diarrhea, and hepatitis, to name a few.
California-based 501c3 non-profit, changetheworld (CTW), is working with LifeStraw and local volunteers in Puerto Rico to help provide access to portable water filtration systems to individuals and communities serviced and not yet serviced by the disaster relief effort. We have volunteers on the ground to ready and waiting to distribute directly to communities in need - most of whom must purify river or rain water to meet their daily needs.
LifeStraws are plastic drinking straws with a built-in filter that will make it possible to drink from any water source and be protected from preventable diseases.

For as little as $15, one LifeStraw Personal Water Filter will provide an individual with 1,000 gallons of safe, drinkable water.
For a donation of $30, one LifeStraw Go comes with a water bottle and also provides 1,000 gallons of safe water in – that’s equivalent to over 8,000 single use plastic bottles.
With a donation of $70, a LifeStraw Mission provides 4,750 gallons of safe water — enough to supply a family of five with clean drinking water for up to three years. The Mission is rated by the World Health Organization as a top-rated (3-star) purifier for Household Water Treatment.
These mobile water filtration units are ideal for displaced families or individuals without access to electricity, shelter, running water, or the fuel needed to boil water. LifeStraws will allow people to access clean and safe drinkable water no matter where they are on the island.
Puerto Rico needs your help NOW! Time is of the essence. Our goal is to raise $9,000 for these life-saving water filtration systems and get them to Puerto Rico ASAP!
Together, with $9,000, we can purchase enough filtration units for individuals to access over 500,000 gallons ( or about 2 million liters) of clean, safe, and drinkable water.
