Hi, I'm CJ!
I have recently been selected to represent England, in the Indoor Cricket World Cup, 2016.
This is such a massive honour and means everything to me, and although the journey ahead is not always going to be an easy one, I am very excited about this amazing opportunity and ready to take on all the challenges which lie ahead!
In order to be part of the World Cup, all players are required to fund the tournament themselves - and although initially I didn't want to have to ask for help, many of my friends (& some whom I don't even know), have said they would like to help. I can't thank you enough for this.
About Indoor Cricket & the tournament:
It is a ten day tournament to be held in Birmingham (21st October - 29th October).
Indoor Cricket is a fast, dynamic format of the outdoor game, played in tension netted arenas. 24 teams from 7 countries will participate across 5 age categories, delivering 140 exciting international matches over the 10 days.
A bit about me:
I used to play outdoor cricket for Kent ( for 15 years) and also represented England U19's, U25's and England B, with some appearances in the A squad. I currently play for the MCC and I am a qualified coach. I have played indoor cricket before - but over 20 years ago!
I did however truely think my international days were over - until now!
I live in Canterbury and I am a music teacher and work with young people with SEN. I am also a singer songwriter, musician and workshop leader, specialising in percussion/ drums. I perform & run workshops all over Kent and at many of the festivals.
How much do I need?
The tournament requires financial commitment from every player - the amount being £1,100. I have less than 2 months!
What does the money go towards?
Entry fees, accommodation, food plan, transport, kit, physiotherapists, team meal, team gifts ...
The amount doesn't end there though ...
I will now be travelling from Canterbury to Birmingham every Saturday and many of the Sundays too, for squad training & matches. Fitness training also takes place once a week in London. I also need to buy additional kit and raise money for childcare, plus my daughter will have to stay in the hotel with me for some of the tournamnt, as I can't leave her for the 10 days. Money is also needed for everyday gym, fitness classes, swimming etc, leading up to the tournament.
Sponsorship:
There will be live streaming of all matches (please see info below). Sponsor's logo can be put on training shirts, kit bags, bats etc. I will also mention company in all interviews.
There will be lots of social meda opportunity too.
