CLARITY - Cienega High School APBIO

CLARITY is something that we, as students in an AP Biology class at Cienega High School, dream of being able to experiment with and learn from. CLARITY is a procedure used in order to make an organ of choice (ours would be a brain) transparent. By transforming the brain to be transparent, we would be able to study the brain in greater depth, perform higher level experiments, and then be able to reuse the brains for more experimentation.

We were exposed to the idea of CLARITY by our teacher. Our teacher gave us an article to read and study about the development of CLARITY. Our assignment was to use the knowledge of this project to learn about cell membranes specifically. We all did our homework assignment; and in the process, we became extremely fascinated by the idea behind CLARITY. The entirety of our AP Biology class started imagining a dream world where we had the resources, time, and money to be able to do this project. The things we could look at! The areas of science we could study and learn from! The more the class started looking into this idea, the more we realized that this could be far more than a dream. This project could become reality. The procedures for this experiment is quite simple, and lines up perfectly with the standards on the AP Biology test we have to take in the fall. The equipment we need to use can be found at the University of Arizona, a nearby university. However, money unfortunately, is still an issue. We would be most grateful if you would donate to this cause and help out an eager-to-learn high school classroom.
