Christopher the Superhero

In the blink of an eye, life changes.  Mothers and fathers are lost.  Daughters are born and sisters are married.  Life brings us change.   But sometimes in that simple blink, we peek our eyes open and realize we would rather keep them squeezed tightly shut.  Life can change so devastatingly fast that we are left reeling.  Our lives turn from peaceful to tumultuous...from happy to sad.
This is the story of our brother, partner, dada, nephew, cousin, friend.  This is the story of a superhero.

Christopher was a rebel.  An unapolgetic one.  He loved his family and friends fearlessly.  He was hilarious.  He was selfless.  It is from this selflessness that a tragedy turned into a blessing.

On Tuesday, August 29th, Chris, the love of his life Naomi, and their daughter Marley were at home when Chris started acting strangely.  When she realized that Chris, the forever comic ,wasn't joking, Naomi called 911 and he was transported to a nearby hospital.  When he arrived, the staff scanned his brain and found that he had suffered an aneurysm and he was immediately transferred to St. Lukes.

His sister, Laura, flew back from Mexico where she was vacationing  to say goodbye to her beloved brother.

For the next 48 hours, Chris had visitors sharing stories and memories, tears, and hugs.  We were unified in our devastation, sadness, and anger.  We held hands.  We longed for the monitors to show signs of life.  We sobbed.  The grief was tangible, and so was the anger.  We wanted to know and understand "why".

Christopher Grudzinski left our world on Thursday, August 31st at 2:03 pm.  He left us with a picture from Marley, a toy pig from his childhood, the Boston terrier that he could never have, a monkey, a picture with his sister, a fuzzball...

The impact of Chris's decision to be an organ donor left him a superhero.  His heart will beat on.  His liver and kidneys have also found homes,  while his pancreas is benefiting research and education. He lives on. 4 people saved, 100's of people blessed that their loved one was given a chance at life due to the selfless act of 1: Our Chris. Our Superhero.
