Christmas Heroes Needed!

***Update!*** We have amazing news to share with all of our supporters! After our post on Christmas day, year-end-giving continued to be donated to this campaign.  A total of $68,003 was donated here and offline!

On March 15, 2018, Luke 3:11 Share Center was able to purchase the property for the balance of $68,000! We now officially own the property debt-free!

We are so grateful to Renew Community Church for the opportunity to purchase the property for the balance due on the mortgage. We are also thankful for the extension given by the bank that allowed for fundraising efforts to continue.

But, most of all, we are thankful to you, Our Heroes. Each donation given was influential in bringing us to this moment of ownership.

We need you to be our hero this Christmas! Help us secure a permanent home for Luke 3:11 Share Center!

How We Share
For the past five years, Luke 3:11 Share Center has served Lake County, IL. Each month, 35,000lbs of food is picked up from 8 retail partners and distributed to 1500 guests. Volunteers share over 1200 hours of their time each month to make this happen. 

Where We Share
Luke 3:11 Share Center has not only been housed at Renew Community Church, the church has shared their land in such a way that we have been able to customize the space to maximize opportunities to share with Lake County. 

The installation of 30 raised garden beds, the remodel of the entire basement for efficient food distribution, and the conversion of the parsonage into office space and stock rooms, are just a few examples of how the property has been customized for us.

Why We Need Heroes this Christmas
Sadly, the church recently decided it was time to close their doors. Knowing the impact Luke 3:11 Share Center has in the community, the church would like to gift the buildings and 7 acres of land to us.

There is one catch: before this gift can be made, the remainder of the mortgage has to be paid off and a balloon payment of the remaining balance is due Christmas day. So, in order to make this gift a reality, we are coming alongside this effort and need to raise $100,000 to pay off the property and make some immediate repairs.

Only $100,000 is needed to secure these 7 acres of land, the buildings, and provide a permanent home for Luke 3:11 Share Center.

Volunteers of all ages and abilities share 1200 hours of their time each month to share with the community. We share 35,000lbs of food each month with 1500 individuals from the community.

Because of our partnership with Northern Illinois Food Bank and retail partners such as Walmart, Jewel, and Target, we are able to provide fresh produce, dairy, meat, and bread in addition to shelf-stable items.

In June 2015 the basement was remodeled for efficient food distribution. Classrooms were removed to open the space, recessed storage space was created for a commercial freezer, a commercial fridge, 3 additional freezer/fridge units, 4 portable coolers, and 5 rolling shelves. At the end of the day, everything is stored behind closed doors to allow the space to be used for additional non-food programs.



This past spring, 30 raised garden beds were installed on the property. Participating families received all the plants, garden tools, and other supplies they would need to be successful, and grew a combined total of over 660 pounds of fresh produce!
