Christmas for Grenfell is about bringing a smile to the faces of the children affected by the Grenfell tower fire this festive season.

A bit about me, My name is Stevan Racz, I currently live in leighton buzzard but grew up as a kid in West London and I still have family ties there. Its a community I grew up in and feel close to even to this day.

I sadly lost my uncle in the Grenfell Tower fire on June 14th and took to volunteering as a way to handle my grief.

During that time volunteering I became friends with many of the suvivors, evacuess, volunteers and locals. It was through this network that I was asked to partner on this campaign to bring some cheer to the children affected by the tower fire. I gladly accepted having seen the suffering these children have endured for the past 6 months.

When we say children affected we dont just mean those who survived the tower fire, we are talking about those displaced in hotels over christmas, those that witnessed the fire on the night. Seeing and hearing horrors no child should ever have to with no official support. Those who may have lost friends from school. Those who have to witness the burned out remains of the building on a daily basis.
Our campaign is two fold. First part of the campaign is to buy the surviving children, evacuee and those displaced or bereaved in hotels over the christmas period a gift of their choice (for a set amount) Through working with RBKC, Rugby Portobello Trust and other volunteer networks we believe this number to be around the 300 mark and will earmark a specific amount of the funds raised to achieve this. The team and I will purchase the requested presents and hand deliver these to the children affected.

The second part is to run a community event before christmas, this will be a fun filled day with Santa, entertainers, a DJ, Food, sweets, and finally a gift from santa. We are achieving this through both our go fund me campaign and And the good will of people donating their services and goods.

A leaflet drop has occured advising those in the immediate area of grenfell tower of the party and we have also worked with the local schools and resident association to pass out the message of this event. Plus word of mouth and posters in local shops etc. we hope to reach as many of the affected children as possible. The numbers for this event are dependant on who turns up however working on figures given to us from the local schools we believe there to be in excess of 2000 children affected and we are aiming to cater for as many as those as possible.

we have aimed to give the 300 children directly affected by the fire (survivors and displaced in hotels) about 50% of the funds raised. with the other 50% raised going towards the community event and presents given by santa.

Our volunteer network arranging all of this in the back ground consists of Survivors from the tower, Evacuees from Grenfell walk, local residents, volunteers who have worked with families affected since the begining and me a bereaved family member.

Everyone working on this project does so from the heart, with a love of those affected and for the community we serve. We have all pledged not to take any money from this gofundme appeal for personal expenses and every penny raised for this project on gofund me will go towards achieving our aims set out above.

We are community focused and lead. We have a Facebook page Chrismas for Grenfell (twitter handle #ChristmasForGrenfell) which we will consult from time to time on decisions needed to be made and also as a call to action for assistance when needed.

Thats where you come in, we ask you to make a change to these kids lives if only for a small amount of time. Help us to run an event filled with fun, excitement and laughter to children who have for the last 6 months lived in the shadow of death and destruction, with a constant reminder lurking over them. lets show the children of this community they are not forgetton and that we still care. please donate from as little as 5 pound. every donation really does help.

Hello all just a little update to let you know what’s been going on in the background since the event.

The campaign Christmas For Grenfell has been more successful then we could ever have hoped for. Not only have we managed to gift those directly affected by the Grenfell Tower fire a present of their choice but we also put on a fantastic event for the children of the community.

Due to the generosity of people and businesses donating their money and time we are now in the position to be able to share out surplus donations of both goods and money. We will be doing this as a Christmas For Grenfell legacy.

We have decided that the surplus money and gifts will be shared out between carefully selected children’s services by either buying a piece of equipment for them to get continued use out of or directly donating the money. These are the schools and nurseries in the immediate area, and local youth services. We feel by donating to these places it will benefit the widest and most far reaching cross section of the children affected. We have made contact already with most of the intended and will be distributing these donations within the coming weeks.

We hope you agree this is the perfect way of ensuring your money continues to help as many children as possible and thanks so much again to you all for your incredible help in enabling this to happen.

I am sorry this is late in coming.

Yesterdays event has over whelmed me. in under 4 weeks we have achieved a mammoth task. This hasn't been an easy task but it has been a rewarding one. The smiles on the children and parents faces was exactly what we set out to achieve. The sense of being one family, of love and joy resonated around the venue and I am honoured to have been a part of that.

Project 1 has started and is still underway.
Project 2 (the event) was a hit with the kids.

Money left from the campaign will be used to gift each school, nursery and youth centre local to Grenfell tower a piece of equipment to be used by all children in them.

Firstly Thank you to all the people who donated to the campaign. your donations of either money, goods or time were the wheels that kept it in motion and without which the campaign would not of happened.

We will (some already done) continue to gift the survivors, displaced and bereaved in hotels over xmas their gifts. (This is a big task due to 300 people being placed over the place) but it will get done.

Project two we had about 600 people attend the event and each child left with a present from santa, a gift bag containing lego, a GWR book, a beano comic, A lindt chocolate santa and a bag of hairbo. They all also also received lots of sweets, drinks and food. and left with the biggest smiles ever.

So From me to you, thank you all xxxx and whatever your doing in the next week I wish you all love, peace and happiness xxx
